This blog is about a mother who has found herself to be an alternative mom and is working towards ‘The Making of an Angel’.
I learn to be a mother and I realise that if only we parents share our experiences and discoveries with one another, maybe then we can become better ‘Angel-makers’.
Join me, as I hope on this blog, to give my voice a chance on sharing about being a mother and all my current interests, pertaining to parenting, to life.
A little about the alternative mom …..
Currently an over 30s SAHM to an almost three toddler, I find parenting a challenging, learning and enlightening phase of my life. Easy to be a parent, not easy being a good one. I learn a lot about myself, simply by watching my own child grow and learn. The way she grows up to be, is a clear reflection of the parents that we are. As a parent, I find the need to reflect and improve to become a better parent, so that I can raise a better child.
Through this blog, I would like to know a blogsphere of sincere friends, mamas, papas, to share parenting tips, to discuss issues, to befriend, to uplift.
My current interests and blog topics cover primarily :
Parenting - Parenting is not for the faint hearted but who is a born parent? Somehow, parents learn by being parents. The learning journey can be made easier by parents who share and parents who exchange information, parents who read, parents who think. I’m willing to share my learning journey and discoveries and to meet like-minded parents. Raising a child with compassion and consideration among strong grounded values and social skills is of paramount concern to me.
Cooking / Recipes - As a SAHM, I make 3 x 7 = 21 meals a week. Having a child who suffers from multiple-food allergies and being in UK do not help because the convenience of food is out of reach. I also believe in healthy food and minimise the intake of processed food. Learning how to cook puts me in the reach of familiar and much-craved for Asian food and healthy eating. I am still learning to be a better chef and I am willing to explore cooking techniques and combinations.
Environment - I strongly believe in doing my bit for the environment and would really like everyone to come on board and join me in learning something about the environment and what we can do to make changes to help sustain the fragile earth for our children.
‘Homeschooling’ - ‘Homeschooling’ may not be the right word because the actual term means the child does not go to an institution but instead, stay at home and follow a certain curriculum. At this age (2;8), there is no requirement to be institutionalised. For now, I abide by the fact that a child needs a lot of stimulation in order to grow and sleep well (proven from experience!)! A child might get a little under stimulated and bored if each day passes by without some form of activities or input. Hence, I try to provide some avenues for my child to learn something useful. Having said that, I believe that a ‘teacher’ is a smuggler, hence, learning is not only purposefully making our child sit down and learn. There are many other possibilities and aspects to learning.
Allergies and Eczema - My unique child suffers from multiple-food allergies and acute eczema which has eased off a little. I am most willing to share information with parents whose child might be faced with any of the above problems.
Child Language Acquisition - Due to the fact that I’m pursuing my MA in Applied Linguistics, I’m highly interested in child language acquisition and will definitely love to exchange information or get in touch with any parents who are equally intrigued by how children learn languages. I find the process of child language acquisition both intriguing and amazing. Something definitely worth discovering.
